Teaching Placements
There are three main types of schools that we help place people with in Poland: Local Language Schools, Preschools and Primary Schools.
Class sizes are always small at language centers. Don’t expect to ever teach more than 8-10 students at a time; more often the number will be between 3 and 6.
The ages of kids you’ll teach will be quite varied, with some kids as young as 7 (kids in Poland start primary school at age 7), all the way through adults. You may also have to work some mornings for “in-company” classes, as well as the occasional Saturday.
Salaries
You’ll earn within the range of $1100 to $1,700 USD * per month (5,000 – 10,00 Polish złoty) depending on your qualifications, experience and placement location.
Working Hours
- You will generally teach for 15-25 hours per week, that’s about 3-5 hours a day.
- Typical working hours are late afternoon and early evening.
- Most schools will typically have 1-2 weeks off around Christmas time, as well as 2-3 weeks off in February as fall semester ends and spring semester begins.
- There are also usually 1-2 weeks off in April around Easter.
- Keep in mind that most schools pay hourly, and thus you’re only paid for the hours you teach, so remember to factor in days off when planning your budget.
Can I be placed with my friend or partner?
Yes, we can place you in the same town as your friend or partner. You might be teaching in the same school or in nearby schools, depending on the availability of jobs.
What type of school will I teach at?
Most available job placements are in language centers with the most common student age being young adults.
What if I am unhappy with my job? Can I be placed somewhere else?
Not exactly. By signing up for this program and accepting a job with one of our partner schools, you are agreeing to work with them until at least the end of the academic year.
The reason schools choose to work with us is because we have an excellent track record of delivering quality teachers through our training program. By leaving early, you are not only leaving your students without a teacher for the rest of the year, but also putting our reputation and the job prospects of future interns at risk.
That being said, we also hold our partner schools to a very high standard in terms of how we expect teachers to be treated.
If you genuinely believe that your school is not upholding our program standards, you can let us know and we’ll do our best to resolve the issue. In the absolute worst-case scenario, we’ll do our best to find you a new job for the remainder of the program.
What is the dress code for teaching English in Poland?
The dress code for English teachers is smart-casual. You are expected to look professional at all times when you are in the classroom bearing in mind that some schools may expect smarter clothing than others, so come prepared.
Gauranteed Placements
- You must be available to arrive in Poland and start at or near the time of one of our scheduled intake dates as listed on this page.
- You must hold the required qualifications and skills for this program, as listed on this page. We reserve the right to decline to offer this package and give a refund if we believe you do not believe you meet the requirements.
- Due to the need to balance our number of teachers with the number of schools we work with, we can only guarantee one placement offer per teacher. While you are never forced to accept an offer, we cannot guarantee that a second placement will be available if you decline one.
- Preferences, such as desired cities, age groups, contract types, and start dates, will always be taken into account, but cannot be guaranteed.
- While we can guarantee the availability of placements for teachers who meet our requirements, our ability to deliver is conditional on your ability to successfully interview and get accepted by a partner school. Schools always have the final say in hiring teachers.
Cultural Preparation
Part of the success of your experience comes from understanding the culture that you’re going to be living and working in.
Cultural awareness training helps you to settle into your new environment, make local friends, avoid misunderstandings, and enjoy success in social and professional life.

War Statement - Updated September 2023
TravelBud’s main priority is, always has been and will always remain the safety of our teachers.
Whilst our hearts go out to all those affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Europe remains safe, and Poland continues to be one of the safest countries in Europe.
We have been in contact with our on the ground team based in Poland, as well as various government agencies, for consistent updates on the situation in Europe as it unfolds.
In light of the conflict, we have therefore instated a refund policy specific to those applicants enrolled in the Poland program. In the rare event that Poland is deemed unsafe and the program cannot go ahead as planned, applicants will be refunded their fees if they do not wish to opt for one of our other incredible programs.
We do, however, continue to expect a significant wave of refugees from neighboring Ukraine, as we did in 2014 during the first Russia-Ukraine conflict. We, as all of Poland, sympathize with the refugees and are making sure to keep our teachers in the loop on how they can get involved and volunteer to help if so inclined.
Overall, life in Poland has been continuing as normal. There is no sense of fear, danger, or panic; only compassion and support for our neighbors who are suffering.
Schools and classes continue to operate as normal. Outside of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus, international travel continues to operate as normal. There has been no indication of this changing, and are therefore confident that we do not and will not have to modify our program in Poland or the general pre-arrival advice we give to incoming teachers.
A state of emergency remains in place in areas within approximately 3kms of the Belarusian border, including parts of Podlaskie and Lubelskie Voivodeships. However, we place teachers in major cities such as Kraków and Warsaw which are far from these areas.
In summary, Poland remains a country which is safe to travel to and we look forward to welcoming teachers to this exciting program.

Internationally Accredited TEFL/TESOL Certification
There are so many options when it comes to TEFL/TESOL courses that it can be quite overwhelming to understand what’s legitimate and what high quality schools require from teaching staff.
A quality TEFL/TESOL course helps teachers avoid the frustration and pitfalls of being unprepared in the classroom and provides all the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively teach English.
Course Components
Each module will prepare you for different aspects of the teaching experience and build up your skills to respond to every curveball the classroom might throw at you.
Students are trained based on a global ‘best practices’ approach to teaching English as a second language that incorporates the direct method, communicative approach, and task-based teaching approach within a lesson planning structure of Present, Practice, and Produce.
We focus on teacher creativity. In many environments, teachers cannot depend on technology, so they must be both creative and resourceful in their lesson planning and execution. Technology is a tool, not a crutch.
Our teachers must harness their own creative spirit during the course and perform in a low-tech environment. Then once they have demonstrated that, we begin to instruct on how to use technology and allow students to incorporate technology into their lessons.
The course takes place over 4 weeks, starting on the first Monday of every month with assignments due at the end of each week (Sunday evening).
Your final exam takes place in the 5th week.
Peer Participation
The course offers mandatory interaction via forums, peer feedback and one-on-one instructor feedback.
This allows students to see multiple perspectives on their assignments as they design fun and creative lessons.
Students receive peer feedback for each assignment and you will also have to give feedback to other students.
You might be planning to teach in the same country as some of your peers, so this is also a great opportunity to forge connections and make friends.
- Get valuable feedback from fellow students
- Share resources and ideas
- Improve your lesson plans

This module focuses on how to teach English to ESL learners of all ages and structuring lessons to improve students’ capability to speak English and just as importantly, to improve their confidence!
Key Takeaway: Techniques, structures and tips for developing creative, engaging speaking lessons for students of all ages and skill levels.
Module 3: Teaching Reading
This module will introduce you to different techniques for teaching reading to students whose reading skills, concentration and interests may vary.
This module focuses on how to teach English to ESL learners of all ages and structuring lessons to improve students’ capability to speak English and just as importantly, to improve their confidence!
Key Takeaway: Strategies, techniques, and creative pathways to developing reading lessons which draw on student interest and push out their language frontiers. With a focus on drawing on your own creativity, here’s your opportunity to share your interests with your students and learn about theirs.
Module 4: Teaching Listening

Key Takeaway: In-depth knowledge of the importance and techniques for teaching pronunciation as good listening skills will improve speaking, grammar and pronunciation.
Module 5: Teaching Grammar
Schools will often expect you to focus on speaking more than grammar but the simple games and exercises suggested in this module will help you to introduce students to correct grammar in a fun way that will make it much easier for the teacher and students.
Key Takeaway: Your students will pick up on your correct use of grammar whenever you speak to them. You can incorporate some grammar practice into other aspects of your teaching.
Module 6: Classroom Management
Classroom management is routinely the most challenging aspect of teaching. It does take practice, but after learning about the key reasons why students misbehave and the best ways to respond, you will be on your way to creating a fun and balanced classroom environment.
Key Takeaway: You’ll have to find your own style of classroom management, but having confidence, building trust with your students and not taking yourself too seriously are good places to start.

Our accommodation packages provide a range of affordable, quality-assured options to spend your first week in Poland (and longer if necessary) at conveniently located guesthouses that you can book through us at an affordable flat rate.

We work exclusively with respectable, safe, and clean traveller hostels. Complimentary breakfast and lockers are always provided.
GUESTHOUSE PRIVATE ROOM – €350 for 15 days / 14 nights

Accommodation after the orientation
You will be given guidance on finding accommodation in accessible areas.

Be prepared to pay a deposit of one month’s rent as well as the first month’s rent upfront upon moving in.
We also advise having the second month’s rent in savings, as the due date for rent often falls before you’ll receive your first paycheck (for example, a landlord may want rent paid by the 5th while a school pays on the 10th).
We’re here to help you through the whole process and will provide help, guidance, information and assistance finding your ideal accommodation during your teach abroad experience.

Safety
Moving to another country to live and work is a big step and we realise that safety can be a concern.
What do TravelBud staff and teachers say about safety?
Compared to most major cities in Western Europe or the U.S., Kraków is extremely safe.
There are no “better avoided” parts of the city, and there should be no reason for any man or woman should feel unsafe walking alone, by day or night.
Female visitors will notice that they experience far less “catcalling” and other unwanted attention on the streets than in other European cities.
Violent crime is extremely rare, and when it does happen, it’s usually alcohol fueled. Drunk Poles can occasionally get aggressive; try to avoid escalating arguments, and if you do see a physical confrontation brewing, it’s best to back away and not try to play the hero.
How are the authorities?
The city center of Kraków has a very high law enforcement presence, and police present no threats unless you plan on breaking the law. Most officers can speak basic English.

How many days off do I get? When are the Polish school holidays?
Most schools will typically have 1-2 weeks off around Christmas time, as well as 2-3 weeks off in February as fall semester ends and spring semester begins. There are also usually 1-2 weeks off in April around Easter.
Keep in mind that most schools pay hourly, and thus you’re only paid for the hours you teach, so remember to factor in days off when planning your budget.
Most language schools do not operate over school holidays, and do not operate (or operate on a greatly reduced schedule) during the summer period. Some do of course, but certainly not the majority. Preschools are more likely to offer ‘year-round’ work including the summer.
