Imagine kicking off your weekend with fellow teachers, a scavenger hunt, roller coasters, and a cozy dinner filled with laughter and great stories. That’s exactly how we rolled on September 7th at the Thailand Placement Meetup at Dreamworld!
If you’re thinking about joining TravelBud’s Teach in Thailand program or you’re already teaching here, know this: our Thailand placement meetups are not your average teacher gatherings. They’re all about bringing our teaching community together, sharing teaching tips, and just having a blast before things like grading papers and final exams start creeping in. Plus, it’s our way of showing appreciation for all the incredible work our teachers do here in Thailand.
The Perfect Day at Dreamworld
Thailand’s largest amusement park, Dreamworld, was our playground for the day. Picture yourself racing through fairy-tale landscapes, getting your adrenaline pumping on rides, and cooling off in Snow Town (yes, there’s actual snow in Thailand, sort of!). We started with an epic scavenger hunt, where groups of teachers and Xplore staff teamed up to race around the park, snapping selfies, and collecting clues. It was a fast-paced adventure, but more than that, it was the perfect icebreaker for our teachers to connect with each other.
And then, of course, we hit the rides. Roller coasters? Check. White-water rafting? Absolutely. Screaming with your new besties on a log flume? You bet. It wasn’t just about the thrills—it was about bonding over shared moments that we’ll all be talking about for ages. Who knew a day at an amusement park could turn into such an awesome networking opportunity for teachers abroad?
Dinner, Games, and All the Feels
After surviving (and loving) Dreamworld, we headed to Krua Thai for a cozy dinner with over 40 alumni, staff, and teachers. This was a special chance to connect with more experienced teachers and hear their wild and inspiring stories. Between bites of delicious Thai food, we played the “Thai Language Challenge,” where we tested how much our teachers had picked up from their students. Spoiler alert: their language skills were seriously impressive!
We also played charades, which had everyone in stitches and really brought out everyone’s fun side. These moments—laughing over silly guesses, cheering each other on—are what make our meetups unforgettable. It’s more than just networking; it’s about forming friendships that last beyond your time teaching abroad.
Why Our Placement Meetups Matter
Teaching in Thailand can be an incredible journey, but it’s not without its challenges. Having a support network makes all the difference, especially when exams start piling up and cultural differences feel overwhelming. That’s why our meetups are so important—they give our teachers a break, a chance to recharge, and an opportunity to lean on each other for support.
So, whether you’re already teaching in Thailand or thinking about taking the leap, just know that TravelBud is here to help you make the most out of your teach abroad experience. Huge shoutout to everyone who made the Dreamworld meetup such a success! We’re already counting down the days until our next adventure.
