Describe the local culture of your placement in Thailand (anything unique to your town?)
Busy area with lots of restaurants, shops, and a big mall. Feels like a busy city but more of a business area so not a lot of people here on weekends.
What are your favorite places to eat in Thailand?
The street market across from the mall has good food and a wide selection of stalls.
What are your favorite coffee shops?
Whistle and Salotto for coffee and TurtleBar for drinks
Are there markets in your town? What is the vibe? When is it open?
There is a small street market acrosss from a big mall. The street market is only open on weeknights usually and the mall is always open. There are a few bigger markets you can take the train to that are open on weekends like Owl market.
Name any touristy spots in your town (beaches, temples, hikes, gardens, etc)
Koh Kret has temples and is a touristy spot to explore by bike
What is the nightlife like? Any favorite bars/clubs?
There is a karaoke bar and a dance club in the city where all the college students hang out.
Local artists play there so if you need something to do on a Saturday night, go there!
What do you do on the weekends/what are your favorite spots to hang out with your
friends?
Not much nightlife, but you can go into Bangkok pretty easily by train or grab.
What is an easy weekend or long weekend trip in a close by province/town?
I like going to Koh Kret or Owl market on weekends.
What is an easy weekend or long weekend trip in a close by province/town?
Bangkok is easy to get to and Kanchanaburi is also close by if you prefer nature/hikes/lakes
What’s your one piece of advice for new teachers coming here?
Pace yourself! Get plenty of rest and don’t try to do everything at once or go out every night. It is better to have more energy to really enjoy things and you will need lots of energy for teaching too, so get plenty of rest.
