A Growing Family, South America and a Roof Over Our Heads: 2017 Has Been Epic for TravelBud

I remember procrastinating over studying for one of my final exams at university when my best friend, Liam, called me up about an idea he was keen to get off the ground. He wanted to help people from all over the world explore exciting countries like Thailand while teaching English. We were just 23 at the time and had no experience the business world but without hesitation I immediately asked how I can help and TravelBud was born.

The TravelBud team at our Christmas function

The TravelBud team has about doubled in size since the beginning of the year, looking forward to our next staff member to join the team in January 2018!

Fast-forward four years and we’re offering a range of different teach and volunteer abroad programs throughout Asia, a new program in Colombia, one in Panama and many more soon to be launched in Central America and Africa. The team has grown in size with some incredible personalities joining the TravelBud family this year, and we have streamlined our processes and systems to be the best its ever been to make sure each and every person who gets in touch with us, has an unforgettable experience.

We’ve seen our participants coming from an increasingly diverse range of nationalities. Aside from our fellow South Africans, we now also have a large number of Americans, Canadians, Brits, Australians and New Zealanders who are exploring different parts of the globe with the help of TravelBud, and we have plans to open up travel opportunities to more and more nationalities as we grow, while expanding the types and destinations of our programs too.

This year we finally switched from working remotely to having (almost) the whole team under one roof in our new office with an epic view in the Cape Town suburb of Claremont. The level of energy that I see every day in this office is unbelievable. Every member of the family has so much respect and support for one another and this filters through to the level of service that someone can expect when interacting with us. We genuinely believe in the work we do, and the experiences we offer, and every one of us care about every person that enrols and takes part in our programs. This level of enthusiasm and compassion is hard to find in companies and organizations these days, but its something we’re committed to continuing to nurture.

Finally we’re (almost) all under one roof, and with an epic view at that!

What can you expect from TravelBud in 2018 and beyond?

We have set out to offer a wider variety of programs in more countries next year. We already have exciting program developments in Central America and Southern Africa, which will be launching soon, and more will follow suit come 2018.

We’ll never stop reviewing and refining the way we support our program participants to ensure our quality of service continues to be the industry leader and which always offers something unique. Listening and paying close attention to the feedback we receive from our alumni has been key to this and will continue to be crucial for our growth.

The team will grow in size. We have already completed taking applications for two new positions at TravelBud, in our enrolments team in Cape Town and our support team in Bogotá. 2018 is bound to see a lot more opportunities opening up to join the TravelBud team as we continue to grow; and while we grow, our company culture will continue to be of utmost importance to me.

2017 has been a phenomenal year for TravelBud and from the reviews we’ve read from our alumni participants, it’s been an unforgettable year for them too. I am so incredibly proud of what the team has achieved this year and can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for us.

Big things are coming!
