ABOUT THE DESTINATION

During your volunteer placement, you will stay within the Greater Kruger Area wildlife hotspot in South Africa, just 45-minutes from the world-famous Kruger National Park.

PROGRAM GOALS AND HIGHLIGHTS

Monitor and study the African ‘Big 5’ – the elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo, via game drive observation and data collection essential for protecting them from poaching, starvation and misinformed culling.

Contribute to a project that works toward the preservation and conservation of the African Big 5 – the elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo.

Be part of daily game drives where you will be collecting and compiling compiling conservation data used to protect animals from poaching, starvation and misinformed culling.

Get to see nocturnal animals in their natural environment, catching often unseen behavior on game-spotting night drives.

Live in the heart of the world famous Greater Kruger Area, in our very own private volunteer lodge situated on 18 hectares of land, surrounded by impala, warthog, bush pig, nyala and a great diversity of birdlife.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long can I volunteer for?

You can choose between 2 – 12 weeks. We recommend longer periods to allow yourself time to fully immersive yourself in the African way of life!

Where is the greater Kruger area?

Our program base is in the Greater Kruger Area of South Africa, a wildlife hotspot situated just 45-minutes from the world-famous Kruger National Park.

How does accommodation work?

Surrounded by game reserves, our spacious thatched lodge boasts a large swimming pool and is situated on 18 hectares of landThe nearest town is Hoedspruit, a 30-minute drive from our lodge, where we do a weekly town trip on Fridays to visit the supermarkets and souvenir shops. 

What will I be doing during my stay?

Join our qualified guides and research team on daily game drives in search of the Big 5 and other African wildlife. We will give you the tools and support on how to collect data on these animals, which are then used to identify individual animals using ID kits.

Help to remove invasive plants and pick up litter in order to transform the land back into a habitat where wildlife can flourish.

Take part in snare sweeps, where we discard traps that often cost the lives of leopard and other animals.

You will learn how to compile and collect data, which is analyzed and used to create reports, maps, and up-to-date profiles of the animals that we observe.  Using whisker patterns, scars and ear notches you will understand how to distinguish individuals in order to create and update ID kits which will monitor their movement and their health in the years to come.
