Friday Live: Do I Need to Speak the Local Language to Teach English Abroad?

So it's an age-old question and not a silly one in the slightest: Do I need to be able to speak the local language to teach English in that country? I mean, after all you're trying to teach people who don't speak English how to speak the language. It would make sense that a basic understanding of your students' home language would be helpful.

So the short answer to this question is simply "No, you don't", but the long answer is a little more complex, so listen to 3 former English teachers in Asia on what their advice would be on this.
