My Most Memorable Thai Teaching Experience

Loren Swailies, currently teaching English in Thailand to kindergarten children, sat down to talk to us about her most memorable Thai teaching experience.

Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, Loren has been teaching English in Thailand since May 2014.  She has been fortunate enough to land a teaching job in Bangkok where she has been teaching kindergarten children the basics of English language communication.

During her time teaching, one child in particular stood out to her, being the most challenging student in the class and struggling the most with broadening his English vocabulary.

This child however proved to bring about the most memorable and rewarding moment during Loren’s first few months teaching English to kindergartners in Thailand.

What many don’t come to understand is that it is the simple things in life such as helping that one child who, without your assistance, would probably go on to never learn a word of English in his or her life.

Loren indirectly has changed this child’s life forever. With so much poverty existing in the Kingdom of Thailand and with the majority of it merely being reproduced at birth, the gift of being able to communicate in English can open up so many employment opportunities for the local Thai people.

This is why we offer the Teach English in Thailand program and why we encourage everyone looking for a new direction and adventure in life to embark on this life-changing experience.

Loren, along with the many other foreign English teachers in Thailand, has grown an exceptional amount with her eyes now being opened up to what she truly values and appreciated in life.

Thanks for sharing this moment with us Loren.

We hope it encourages many others to embrace their adventurous spirit and go make a difference somewhere in the world.
